MSU Kendo club 2005 Summer Mini-Camp
The MSU Kendo Club's 2005 summer mini-camp was held Sunday June 26, 2005 from about 9am to 12:30pm. The camp featured several intense workouts led by Tibor Barany sensei, president of the Fenix Kendo Dojo in Budapest and many times member of the Hungarian National Team.
This year's camp capped off an 8 month stay by Barany sensei in Zeeland Michigan. During his stay, Barany sensei was guest instructor at the MSU kendo club, making the trek from Zeeland every Friday night to practice with us on Friday nights and most Sunday afternoons.
A small but dedicated group participated in practices that included exercises in footwork, suburi, kiri-kaeshi, kihon-uchi, uchi-komi and ji-geiko. As suits a summer gasshuku, the camp was conducted in the upstairs Raquetball court of the MSU IM west. A room that we call the oven.
The picture below shows the dojo shortly after the last practice period of the camp. Have the kenshi all dissolved into puddles of sweat?

After practice the group went to the Beggars Banquet for a farewell lunch with Barany sensei. Several members have vowed to visit Budapest in the future.
